Frequently Asked Questions

How long do services typically last?

On average, our service is around 75 minutes long.

Does it matter what I wear to the Sunday service?

Probably not. On a typical Sunday, you will probably see a range of clothing—from coat and tie to sweatshirt and jeans, from dress and heels to, well, sweatshirt and jeans. We would love to have you visit our church, and hope you will dress as you feel comfortable when you do!

What programs or activities do you offer for children during the services?

We care deeply about the next generation, and so provide excellent, gospel-centered programming during the Sunday morning service (10:30a) and Explore Hour (9:15a) times. A welcome host will be available to direct you and your child to their Kids’ City classroom. Please visit our Kids’ City, CityLink and Cityview Stu pages for more information!

What are the demographics of the church?

Cityview Community Church has a fairly diverse congregation, reflecting the ethnic, social, and economic diversity of the community. People attend from every stage of life—children, young adults, college students, singles, young married couples, young families, established families, empty nesters. We also have ministries designed for those at every stage of the spiritual journey—for those questioning the claims of Jesus, new believers, and mature Christians.

What is the preaching like?

We are firmly committed to biblical preaching, and ordinarily preach through books of the Bible passage by passage. Because we believe in the authority and sufficiency of Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16-17), our primary purpose is to let the Word speak, rather than merely sharing our own opinions or thoughts. All of our preaching pastors strive to unpack the meaning of the text in its original context (what it meant “then and there”) before applying it to our current context (what it means for us “here and now”). We do have topical series, although even then we use specific biblical passages that address the topic as the foundation for our teaching.

What style of worship music do you normally play?

We play worship songs and hymns in a contemporary style primarily. We believe worship is a way of life (1 Corinthians 10:31; Romans 12:1), but that the Sunday service should include a special time of corporate worship as well. The purpose of this corporate gathering is threefold: (1) to declare God’s praises, (2) to build each other up in love through singing to each other (Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 5:19), and (3) to communicate to a watching world—including those visiting our church—the worth of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 14:25). In planning music and the other elements of our services, then, we try to keep all three purposes—all three audiences: God, the church, the world—in mind.

What denomination is the church?

Cityview Community Church associates with Venture Church Network. For more information about our beliefs and practices, please visit our Beliefs page.

Do you rent your facility for weddings or to other organizations?

We do occasionally rent out the church facilities. For weddings, the bride and groom must both comply with our wedding policy. Click here to read our wedding policy. Click here to see our fee structure. Email the office for a reservation request and additional information.

Does the church give money to non-attendees to assist in times of hardship?

We refer such cases to Love Christian Clearinghouse and Elmhurst Walk-In Network. Click here to go to our #CityviewServes page. The church does run a free Clothes Closet that is open to anyone, the first Saturday of each month.
